Hiring Range:  

$20.00-$28.35/hour

This job description is established by the Eastern Rio Blanco Metropolitan Recreation & Park District (District) to outline the basic requirements, duties and general responsibilities of the position of Specialty Instructor (Fitness).  This position is “at will”, which means the District may terminate the employment relationship at any time and for any reason, subject only to the requirements of Federal and State law.  Similarly, the employee may terminate the employment relationship without notice at any time for any reason.

 

Position Summary:

 

The Specialty Instructor will plan and implement District fitness programs on a year-round basis.  Specialty Instructor may move from Level I to Level II and possibly back to Level I, based on availability and hours taught.

 

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

 

The following duties are an overview of the primary duties and responsibilities of the Specialty Instructor position and do not constitute an all-inclusive list. These duties and responsibilities establish a flexible, functional base from which the employee operates.  The duties and responsibilities may also be modified with additions, deletions or changes as required to assist in obtaining organizational goals and objectives.

Specialty Instructor I

  1. Assist in the scheduling of fitness programs;

  2. Create class implementation plans and instructs classes;

  3. Assess and modify different levels of class participants;

  4. Competent in utilizing District program equipment;

  5. Demonstrate use of good judgement and the ability to work without direct supervision;

  6. Assist with program equipment inventory;

  7. Serve as a substitute instructor as needed;

  8. Teach at least 50 hours per calendar year.

  9. Demonstrate use of good judgment and ability to work independently;

  10. Demonstrate initiative that supports the Districts vision, mission, core statements, and Strategic Action Plan;

  11. Demonstrate comprehensive knowledge of the District’s rules, policies and procedures, including the rules, policies and procedures contained in the District’s handbooks and manuals.

Specialty Instructor II

  1. Same primary duties and responsibilities as Level I;

  2. Knowledge and willingness to guide another instructor through the mentoring program;

  3. At least one year of teaching experience;

  4. Teach over 50 hours per calendar year.

Mandatory Qualifications and Requirements:

  1. Must be 15 years of age;

  2. Possess at the time of hire/promotion or obtain within 90 days and maintain valid First Aid,

  3. Adult/Child CPR, and AED certifications or able to obtain within the terms agreed upon at the time of employment/promotion to the position;

  4. Shift availability considerations:

a. Works early morning, evening, split-shift, and/or weekend shifts

b. Works a variety of shift times; covers shifts on short notice

5. Ability to read, write, speak and understand the English language at a level adequate to perform the job.

Desired Qualifications and Requirements:

  1. Ability to read, write, speak and understand the Spanish language;

  2. Possess group fitness certification;

  3. Previous experience as an instructor;

  4. Possess and maintain a valid Colorado Driver’s License with good driving record.

Working Environment/Physical Requirements:

This position requires work in a variety of locations and conditions, including outdoor recreational
areas and facilities, gymnasiums, pools and typical office environments.​

  1. This position will involve working indoors and, at times, outdoors;

  2. This position requires standing, running, walking, sitting, kneeling, stooping/bending, lifting, squatting, pushing, pulling, crawling, jumping, sliding, climbing, pinching, gripping, reaching over head, reaching away from the body, and repetitive motion;

  3. Must possess the ability to lift weights and/or other items up to twenty (20) pounds frequently and in excess of thirty (30) pounds occasionally;

  4. This position requires physical activity;

  5. This position demands frequent use of sensory activities such as talking, seeing, hearing, smelling, feeling (identifying objects by touch), depth perception and color vision;

  6. This position may involve periods of high physical, mental and/or emotional stress.
