Position Purpose:
The Parks & Facilities Maintenance Specialist performs a variety of skilled on-demand and scheduled maintenance, repairs, improvement projects, and reporting activities at or on District facilities, parks, open spaces and trails in order to maintain safe, secure, functional, and operationally efficient environments for patrons, visitors, and employees. Additionally, the position is responsible to apply advanced knowledge or experience to oversee HVAC, aquatics, irrigation, plumbing and electrical systems’ preventative maintenance, repairs, and when assigned, lead and provide functional guidance to other staff in a variety of operations projects and activities.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Using safe working methods and guided by operations standards, performs skilled facilities tasks including but not limited to; plumbing and electrical repairs, pump maintenance and repairs, HVAC and aquatics systems operations analysis and adjustments, equipment preventative maintenance and repairs, custodial, and other related tasks as assigned;

Using safe working methods and guided by operations standards, performs a variety of turf, landscaping, and trails activities including but not limited to; mowing, weed trimming, debris removal, trails maintenance, weed spraying, tree care, ornamentals care, athletic field prep and maintenance, irrigation, and snow plowing/shoveling, and other related tasks as assigned;

As assigned, works independently or with minimal supervision to perform complex tasks, projects;

Operates, maintains, and instructs others on a variety of equipment including but not limited to; mowers, trimmers, ATVs, vehicles, tractors, plows, power tools, hand tools, and related facilities equipment; additionally, operates desktop computers and printers and is proficient in the use of email and other work-related software or applications;

As assigned, provides appropriate support, work direction and oversight to other Parks & Facilities Maintenance Department staff regarding work safety and efficient project/task and or training implementation;

As assigned, assists the supervisor or manager with administrative activities including but not limited to; inventory and ordering of supplies, generating expenditure requests, tracking and processing expenses, producing and maintaining safety records, performing inspections, and generating systems analysis reports;

Adheres to protocols and other established policies and procedures related to all safety and operations standards including; the proper use of chemicals, equipment, personal protective equipment, and the initiation of incident, or other issues reporting as required;

In coordination with the Recreation Department, assists and provides logistical support for the setting up and tearing down of programs and activities equipment.
Additional Duties & Responsibilities:

Demonstrates initiative that supports the Districts vision, mission, and goals;

Demonstrates comprehensive knowledge of, and compliance with the District’s rules, policies, and procedures, as contained in the District’s handbooks and manuals;

Performs other related duties as assigned by the Parks & Facilities Maintenance Supervisor or other designated leadership staff to ensure the efficient operation of the department and District.
Minimum Requirements:
-
Must be 18 years of age;
-
Possess a high school diploma or GED;
-
Possess at the time of hire/promotion (or obtain within 90 days) and maintain a valid AED, adult and child CPR, and First Aid certifications;
-
Possess and maintain a valid Colorado Driver’s license with a good driving record;
-
Minimum 3 years’ experience in parks and facilities or related field;
-
Ability to read, write, speak, and understand the English language at a level adequate to perform the job;
-
Shift availability considerations:
-
May be scheduled early mornings, evenings, or split-shifts, and/or weekend shifts;
-
Will be scheduled for on-call duties including early mornings, evenings, and weekends.

Preferred Qualifications:
-
Experience or certifications in HVAC, plumbing, pumps, electrical, aquatics operations, field/turf/trails management, playgrounds, or fleet/equipment maintenance;
-
Currently holds or is willing to obtain a Certified Pool Operators license;
-
Experience in organizing, coordinating, and directing maintenance repairs, or improvements projects;
-
Experience as a Team Lead or in directing work of other staff;
-
Experience with computer systems, Microsoft Word, Excel, Google Platform;
-
Ability to write, read, speak, and understand the Spanish language.
Working Conditions & Physical Demands:
This position involves a substantial amount of physical indoor and outdoor work in and around the District’s facilities and premises, but also will involve some administrative work in an office environment.

Frequent physical activity is required; lifting 50-75 lbs. regularly and in excess of 100 lbs. on occasion; working with hands above shoulder height with up to 40 lbs., and pushing and pulling heavy weights in excess of 100 lbs. on a regular basis;
-
Some sedentary office work performing routine administrative matters may be required; sitting at a desk for periods of time, working for extended periods on a computer, talking on the telephone; indoor environment with high temperatures, humidity, moisture, and noise;

This position may require standing for an extended period of time, and walking, kneeling, sitting, climbing, bending, twisting, stooping/bending, lifting, pushing, pulling, pinching, gripping, reaching over head, reaching away from body, working at various heights, confined spaces and repetitive motion;
-
Working in all weather conditions; tasks may be performed under hazardous conditions, including but not limited to; slippery and uneven surfaces, proximity to moving mechanical equipment, electrical currents, high places, and confined spaces;

This position demands frequent use of sensory activities such as talking, seeing, hearing, smelling, feeling (identifying objects by touch), depth perception and, color vision;

This position will involve periods of high mental and/or emotional stress;

Work may result in exposure to:
-
Gases, fumes, odors, mists and dusts from fertilizer, herbicide, pesticides, and other hazardous materials during applications; requires wearing of appropriate protective equipment/clothing;
-
Dust, pollen, mold, dirt and weeds; Possible interaction with bees, insects, snakes, and other wildlife;
-
High noise levels requiring the wearing of hearing protection.
