This job description is established by the Eastern Rio Blanco Metropolitan Recreation & Park District to outline the basic requirements, duties and general responsibilities of the position of Maintenance Technician I & II. This position is “at will”, which means the District may terminate the employment relationship at any time and for any reason, subject only to the requirements of Federal and State law. Similarly, the employee may terminate the employment relationship without notice at any time for any reason.
Position Summary:
The Maintenance Technician I & II Positions are responsible for providing maintenance of parks, facilities, irrigation, open space, trails, and landscaping. These positions are also responsible for performing general maintenance and repairs, operating and maintaining power tools, equipment, light machinery/light duty vehicles, assisting in the aquatics area with the water quality of the pools, including; maintenance of pumps, filters, controls and water testing. These positions are expected to complete a variety of on-demand and scheduled work. Additionally, a Maintenance Technician II position will work independently, have skilled knowledge in specialty areas of plumbing, irrigation, electrical, carpentry, HVAC systems and exercise oversight with aquatics and other maintenance staff in regard to mechanical and chemical operations.
Maintenance Technician Level I Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
The following duties are an overview of the primary duties and responsibilities of the Lead Maintenance Technician position and do not constitute an all-inclusive list. These duties and responsibilities establish a flexible, functional base from which the employee operates. The duties and responsibilities may also be modified with additions, deletions or changes as required in assisting and obtaining organizational goals and objectives.

Perform semi-skilled tasks using safe working methods and techniques guided by established procedures and protocols in the following: parks, facilities, irrigation, open space, trails, and landscaping;

General knowledge and ability to safely operate power tools, equipment, light machinery, light duty vehicles, including push and riding mowers, weed trimmer, blower, chain saw, tractor, utility vehicles, ATV equipment, mower, paint equipment, and hand tools;

Support and assist in Aquatics with repairs, inspections and the handling of hazardous chemicals;

General knowledge and/or assistance in turf care, athletic field prep and maintenance, irrigation, mowing, trail maintenance, ornamental care, tree care and planting, weed spraying, and snow removal;

Assist with general preventative maintenance as required for buildings, facilities and parks;

Assist and provide logistical support for the setting up of programs, activities;

Provide direction and instructions to Seasonal Park Laborers;

Follow oral and written instructions;
-
Interpret and apply the policies, procedures, laws, codes and regulations pertaining to park and facility maintenance;

Basic record keeping and reporting in a Maintenance Management software; order parts and materials in a timely manner;

Respond to public inquiries in a courteous manner;
-
Work requires timely response to park and facility maintenance situations as they arise;

Demonstrates initiative that supports the Districts vision, mission, and value statements;

Demonstrates comprehensive knowledge of, and compliance with the District’s rules, policies, and procedures, as contained in the District’s handbooks and manuals;

Perform other duties as assigned by supervisory staff and the Executive Director.
Mandatory Qualifications and Requirements:

Must be 18 years of age;
-
Possess a high school diploma or GED;
-
Possess at the time of hire/promotion or obtain within 90 days and maintain a valid AED, adult and child CPR and First Aid certifications;
-
Possess and maintain a valid Colorado Driver’s license with a good driving record;
-
Ability to read, write, speak and understand the English language at a level adequate to perform the job;

Shift availability considerations:
-
Works early morning, evening, split-shift, and/or weekend shifts
-
Works a variety of shift times; covers shifts on short notice
-
Works in other departments as needed;
-
Perform on-call duty, as assigned by Supervisory Staff and the Executive Director.
Desired Qualifications and Requirements:

Ability to write, read, speak and understand the Spanish language;
-
Experience with Microsoft Word and Excel.

Experience with Maintenance Management Systems.
Maintenance Technician Level II Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
The following duties are an overview of the primary duties and responsibilities of the Maintenance Technician II and do not constitute an all-inclusive list. These duties and responsibilities may also be modified with additions, deletions or changes as required to assist in obtaining organizational goals and objectives.

Effectively performs all of the Maintenance Technician I duties as described (see #1-15) above;

Experience and skilled in several of the following: plumbing, irrigation, electrical, carpentry, athletic field prep, trail maintenance, welding, mechanics, snow removal and herbicide application etc.

Knowledge or experience with HVAC Systems;
-
Trains/Oversees other Maintenance staff in regards to the Aquatics maintenance, pumps and the handling of hazardous chemical materials:
-
Obtained certification in any of the following: Pool Operations, plumbing, irrigation, electrical, mechanics, carpentry, arboriculture, etc.

Performs and directs other staff in a variety of advanced duties of the Maintenance Technician as assigned by the Parks Maintenance Facility Supervisor;
-
Demonstrates the ability to work independently and efficiently to generate high quality work products and complete tasks with minimum supervision
-
Trains/Oversees Aquatics and other Maintenance staff in regards to mechanical and chemical operations.

Work requires timely response to park and facility maintenance situations as they arise;

Demonstrates initiative that supports the Districts vision, mission, and value statements;

Demonstrates comprehensive knowledge of, and compliance with the District’s rules, policies, and procedures, as contained in the District’s handbooks and manuals;

Working Environment/Physical Requirements:
This position involves a substantial amount of physical indoor and outdoor work in and around the District’s facilities and premises, but also will involve some administrative work in an office environment.

Frequent physical activity is required; lifting 50-75 lbs. frequently, and in excess of 100 lbs. on occasion; work with hands above shoulder height with up to 40 lbs., push and pull heavy weights in excess of 100 lbs. on a regular basis;
-
Some sedentary office work performing routine administrative matters may be required; sitting at a desk for periods of time, working for extended periods on a computer, talking on the telephone; indoor environment with high temperatures, humidity, moisture and noise;
-
This position may require standing for an extended period of time, and walking, kneeling, sitting, climbing, bending, twisting, stooping/bending, lifting, pushing, pulling, pinching, gripping, reaching over head, reaching away from body, working at various heights, confined spaces and repetitive motion;
-
Working in all weather conditions; tasks may be performed under hazardous conditions, including but not limited to slippery and uneven surfaces, proximity to moving mechanical equipment, electrical currents, high places and confined spaces;

This position demands frequent use of sensory activities such as talking, seeing, hearing, smelling, feeling (identifying objects by touch), depth perception and color vision;

This position will involve periods of high mental and/or emotional stress;

Work may result in exposure to:
-
Gasses, fumes, odors, mists and dusts from fertilizer, herbicide, pesticides and other hazardous materials requiring wearing of appropriate protective equipment/clothing;
-
Dust, pollen, mold, dirt and weeds; possible interaction with bees, insects, snakes and other wildlife;
-
High noise levels requiring the wearing of hearing protection.
