Hiring Range: $24.15 - $33.21/hr.

This job description is established by the Eastern Rio Blanco Metropolitan Recreation & Park District to outline the basic requirements, duties and general responsibilities of the position of Lead Maintenance Technician. This position is “at will”, which means the District may terminate the employment relationship at any time and for any reason, subject only to the requirements of Federal and State law. Similarly, the employee may terminate the employment relationship without notice at any time for any reason.

 

Position Summary:

 

Under the supervision of the Parks & Facilities Maintenance Supervisor, the Lead Maintenance Technician assists with the day-to-day operations of the maintenance department by coordinating, directing, planning, and overseeing general maintenance and repairs to parks, trails, open spaces, turf area, vegetation and ornamentals, shrubs and trees, irrigation, recreational amenities and facilities, buildings, and other District assets and projects as assigned. The Lead Maintenance Technician provides leadership to the front-line department staff by leading and overseeing workloads, monitoring issues, and fostering a culture of working safely. The Lead Maintenance Technician collaborates with other departments to accomplish the effective and efficient operations of the Parks Maintenance division.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

 

The following duties are an overview of the primary duties and responsibilities of the Lead Maintenance Technician position and do not constitute an all-inclusive list. These duties and responsibilities establish a flexible, functional base from which the employee operates. The duties and responsibilities may also be modified with additions, deletions or changes as required in assisting and obtaining organizational goals and objectives.

  1. Assist the Parks & Facilities Maintenance Supervisor by satisfactorily performing responsibilities and tasks assigned;

  2. Oversees, leads, trains, assigns, and reviews the work of Maintenance Technicians. Reporting any employee concerns, problems, performance counseling, disciplinary and other personnel actions to the Parks & Facilities Maintenance Supervisor;

  3. Ability to perform the most difficult and complex duties, assignments, repairs and operations with minimal guidance and supervision;

  4. Assists the Parks & Facilities Maintenance Supervisor in delegating work orders and assignments, provides work product oversight, and assists with correcting work deficiencies;

  5. Performs daily, weekly, and monthly inspections of recreation facilities, equipment, vegetation and ornamentals, trees and shrubs, irrigation, athletic fields, recreation buildings and amenities, shelters, play grounds, open spaces and trails to ensure preventive repairs and general maintenance are in good working order and fully functional;

  6. Works and directs others to perform skilled and semi-skilled tasks using safe working methods and techniques guided by established procedure and protocol;

  7. Interpret, direct, and apply the policies, procedures, laws, codes, and regulations pertaining to facility maintenance;

  8. Demonstrates and instructs others to safely operate power tools, equipment, light machinery, light duty vehicles, including push mower, weed trimer, chainsaw, tractor, ATV equipment, riding mower, paint equipment, and hand tools;

  9. Directs and assists in performing preventive maintenance as required for buildings, facilities and parks, including repairs, (i.e., plumbing, irrigation, electrical, drywall, etc.);

  10. Assists in supervising set-up, teardown and other tasks for District special events as directed;

  11. Provides assistance in estimating materials and/or equipment needed to complete maintenance projects;

  12. Assists in tracking department expenditures and maintains accurate maintenance inventory, and directs other staff concerning the appropriate use of supplies, tools, and equipment, and reports to the Parks & Facilitates Maintenance Supervisor as required;

  13. Coordinates with other District departments and vendors as deemed necessary by Parks Facilities & Maintenance Supervisor;

  14. Recognizes and reports unsafe acts, conditions, accidents and injuries;

  15. Demonstrates capability to conduct one’s self in a calm and professional demeanor when dealing with employee’s, other department staff, vendors, customers, and/or difficult situations;

  16. Assists the Parks & Facilities Maintenance Supervisor in the implementation and enforcement of District policies and procedures, and reports violations to Parks & Facilities and Maintenance Supervisor;

  17. In the absence of management, the Lead Maintenance Technician provides functional guidance to maintenance staff, makes basic decisions pertaining to employee, patron, or vendor complaints, and relays information to the appropriate management level;

  18. Works independently on any administrative or other duties as assigned;

  19. Demonstrates initiative that supports the Districts vision, mission, and value statements;

  20. Demonstrates comprehensive knowledge of, and compliance with the District’s rules, policies, and procedures, as contained in the District’s handbooks and manuals;

  21. Perform other duties as assigned by the Parks & Facilities Maintenance Supervisor and the Executive Director.

Mandatory Qualifications and Requirements:

  1. Must be 18 years of age;

  2. Possess a high school diploma or GED;

  3. Possess at the time of hire/promotion or obtain within 90 days and maintain a valid AED, adult and child CPR and First Aid certifications;

  4. Possess and maintain a valid Colorado Driver’s license with a good driving record;

  5. Minimum 3 years’ experience in the maintenance field;

  6. 1 years of experience in directing/oversight of employees;

  7. Experience in organizing, coordinating, and directing maintenance projects;

  8. Ability to read, write, speak and understand the English language at a level adequate to perform the job;

  9. Shift availability considerations:

    1. Works early morning, evening, split-shift, and/or weekend shifts

    2. Works a variety of shift times; covers shifts on short notice

    3. Works in other departments as needed;

    4. Perform on-call duty, as assigned by the Parks and Facilities Maintenance Supervisor.

Desired Qualifications and Requirements:

  1. Ability to write, read, speaks and understands the Spanish language;

  2. Experience with computer systems, Microsoft Word, Excel, Google Apps, etc.;

  3. Experience with HVAC, plumbing, pumps, electrical, pesticides and carpentry.

Working Environment/Physical Requirements:

This position involves a substantial amount of physical indoor and outdoor work in and around the District’s facilities and premises, but also will involve some administrative work in an office environment.

  1. Frequent physical activity is required; lifting 50-75 lbs. frequently, and in excess of 100 lbs. on occasion; work with hands above shoulder height with up to 40 lbs., push and pull heavy weights in excess of 100 lbs. on a regular basis;

  2. Some sedentary office work performing routine administrative matters may be required; sitting at a desk for periods of time, working for extended periods on a computer, talking on the telephone; indoor environment with high temperatures, humidity, moisture and noise;

  3. This position may require standing for an extended period of time, and walking, kneeling, sitting, climbing, bending, twisting, stooping/bending, lifting, pushing, pulling, pinching, gripping, reaching over head, reaching away from body, working at various heights, confined spaces and repetitive motion;

  4. Working in all weather conditions; Tasks may be performed under hazardous conditions, including but not limited to slippery and uneven surfaces, proximity to moving mechanical equipment, electrical currents, high places and confined spaces;

  5. This position demands frequent use of sensory activities such as talking, seeing, hearing, smelling, feeling (identifying objects by touch), depth perception and color vision;

  6. This position will involve periods of high mental and/or emotional stress;

  7. Work may result in exposure to:

    1. Gases, fumes, odors, mists and dusts from fertilizer, herbicide, pesticides and other hazardous materials requiring wearing of appropriate protective equipment/clothing; applications;

    2. Dust, pollen, mold, dirt and weeds; Possible interaction with bees, insects, snakes and other wildlife;

    3. High noise levels requiring the wearing of hearing protection.
