Position Purpose:
The Custodian is responsible for maintaining the cleanliness, orderliness, and safety of the Meeker Recreation Center and other District facilities and parks by performing a variety of cleaning and sanitation tasks, performing light maintenance and handling trash, maintaining supplies, and addressing and reporting potential issues to ensure that all District facilities and parks remain functional and well-kept for patrons, visitors, and employees.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Performs cleaning duties such as; dusting, scrubbing, sweeping, mopping, and vacuuming on various surfaces including; windows, mirrors, countertops, walls, ceilings, fixtures, carpets, tile, and other types of flooring;

Sanitizes and disinfects surfaces in restrooms, locker rooms, fitness and recreation programming areas, common areas, and high-touch points; empties trash and recycling bins, and stocks areas with needed supplies;

Operates and maintains a variety of cleaning, maintenance, and technical equipment, including but not limited to; floor buffers, power washers, vacuums, carpet extractors, commercial washers/dryers, other industrial tools, and computers, copy machines, phones, and radios;

Adheres to protocols and other established policies and procedures related to safety and operations standards including; the proper use of cleaning chemicals, equipment 89, personal protective equipment, and the initiation of incident or other issues reporting as required;

In coordination with the Guest Services Division, conducts routine recreation center use monitoring, equipment functionality, and supplies; checks to maintain established customer

service and safety standards; proactively addresses issues, submits reports and/or requests as appropriate; performs set-up and related tasks to prepare spaces for special events;

As assigned, assists the Recreation Department with community events set-up/tear-down and performs various related tasks;

As assigned, performs facility or parks improvements projects and/or minor repairs on fixtures, equipment, furniture, and facility systems, such as fixing broken switches or minor leaks;

As assigned, performs other parks and facilities maintenance tasks, such as snow shoveling or plowing, debris removal, and minor landscaping.
Additional Duties & Responsibilities

Demonstrates initiative appropriate for the position and that supports the District’s mission and operational goals;

Demonstrates comprehensive knowledge of, and compliance with, the District’s rules, policies, and procedures, as contained in the District’s handbooks, manuals, and Department/Division handbooks;

Performs other related duties as assigned by the Parks & Facilities Maintenance Supervisor or other designated leadership staff to ensure the efficient operation of the department and District.
Mandatory Requirements:
-
Must be 18 years of age;
-
Possess or working towards acquiring a high school diploma or GED;
-
Possess at the time of hire/promotion (or obtain within 90 days) and maintain a valid AED, adult and child CPR, and First Aid certifications (District provides training);
-
Possess and maintain a valid Colorado Driver’s license with an acceptable driving record;
-
Ability to read, write, speak, and understand the English language at a level adequate to perform the job;
-
Ability to work as scheduled;
-
Works primarily evenings and weekends; works daytime and/or split shifts;
-
Covers shifts on short notice.

Preferred Qualifications:
-
Ability to read, write, speak and understand the Spanish language.
Working Conditions & Physical Demands:
The Custodian position involves a substantial amount of physical indoor and outdoor activities throughout the District’s facilities and parks, but will also involve administrative work in an office environment.

Frequent physical activity is required; lifting 20-35 lbs. regularly and the ability to lift items in excess of 50 lbs. occasionally;
-
This position may require extended periods of standing, walking, kneeling, stooping/bending, lifting, pushing, pulling, gripping, reaching over head, reaching away from the body, and repetitive motion;
-
Working in all weather and potentially hazardous conditions, including but not limited to; slippery and uneven surfaces, proximity to moving mechanical equipment, electrical currents, high places, and confined spaces;
-
Work may result in exposure to gases, fumes, odors, mists and dusts, and other hazardous materials necessitating the use of appropriate personal protective equipment;
-
This position demands frequent use of sensory activities such as talking, seeing, smelling, depth perception, and hearing; work may result in exposure to high noise levels requiring the use of hearing protection.

Constant, positive interaction with District employees and volunteers, department supervisors, patrons, and the public is required.
