Arbor Day Tree Planting & Essay Contest
Arbor Day is an environmental holiday where citizens and groups are encouraged to plant trees and care for already existing trees. Arbor Day was founded by J. Sterling Morton in April 1872 in Nebraska where it is estimated over one million trees were planted in a single day! Celebrate Arbor Day with us as we plant a tree at Circle Park on April 23 at noon.
Would you like a tree for your own yard or a public entity? To be eligible to win a tree, we challenge you to write a one page essay titled “Why I Want a Tree” and submit it to the Meeker Recreation Center by April 16. The top three essays will each win a tree. Essay winners will be revealed on April 23 at noon before the tree planting.
Are you interested in donating a tribute tree to celebrate an occasion or remember someone close to you? Learn more about our tribute tree program at: Tribute Tree & Memorial Bench Program
