Work Hours: Hourly; As Assigned
Hiring Range: $20.00-$25.00/hr.
Desired Hiring Range: $22.00-$25.00/hr.

Position Purpose:
The Head Lifeguard position works directly with the Recreation & Aquatics Supervisor to promote and ensure the safety of the staff and patrons in our facility. This position assists with oversight, training and auditing of the Aquatic division staff. The Head Guard also oversees the daily operations of the Aquatic division including completing assigned administrative tasks, monitoring pump room operations, and the prevention of and response to emergencies.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

Performs all duties of Lead Lifeguard and Lifeguard;

Performs daily monitoring of facility equipment and maintenance of appropriate water chemistry levels; makes appropriate adjustments when required;

As assigned, assists the Recreation & Aquatics Supervisor with administrative duties including but not limited to; inventory and ordering of division supplies, policy and procedure implementation; document management and retention, attends department meetings and participates in training opportunities pertinent to the position;

Acts as the Scene Manager in all emergency scenarios;

Works independently or with minimal supervision to perform the duties of the position;

Demonstrates the capability to conduct oneself in a calm and professional manner when interacting with other staff, participants and public, including during conflict.
Additional Duties & Responsibilities:

Demonstrates initiative, appropriate for the position, that supports the District’s vision, mission, and operational goals;

Demonstrates comprehensive knowledge of, and compliance with the District’s rules, policies, and procedures, as contained in the District’s handbooks, manuals, and Department/Division handbooks;

Performs other related duties as assigned by the Recreation & Aquatics Supervisor or other designated leadership staff to ensure the efficient operation of the department and District.
Minimum Requirements:
-
Must be 18 years of age;
-
Possess or working towards acquiring a high school diploma or GED;
-
Possess at time of hire/promotion a valid American Red Cross Lifeguarding Certification with First Aid/CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers (District training provided);

Demonstrates successful work performance as a Lead Lifeguard and/or Lifeguard for a minimum of 6 months;

Maintains appropriate level of training and certifications;

Ability to read, write, speak, and understand the English language at a level adequate to perform the job;

Shift availability:
a. Early mornings, evenings, split-shifts, and/or weekend shifts;
b. Cover shifts on short notice.
Preferred Requirements:
-
Ability to read, write, speak and understand the Spanish language;
-
Lifeguard Instructor (LGI), Water Safety Instructor (WSI), Water Safety Instructor Trainer (WSIT), or any related aquatic certifications.
Working Conditions & Physical Demands:
The Head Guard position involves physical and sedentary activities in and around the aquatic’s facility.

This position requires standing, walking, kneeling, swimming at variable depths, stooping/bending, lifting, pushing, pulling, pinching, gripping, reaching over head, reaching away from the body, and repetitive motion in an indoor environment with high temperatures, humidity, moisture, and noise;
-
Physical activity is required; lifting 20-35 lbs. frequently, and in excess of 50 lbs. occasionally;
-
Work may result in exposure to gases, chemicals, fumes, odors, mists and dusts, and other hazardous materials;
-
This position demands frequent use of sensory activities such as talking, seeing, hearing, smelling, feeling (identifying objects by touch), depth perception and color vision;
-
This position may involve periods of high mental and/or emotional stress.
